Unlock the Power of eufy | Explore The Ecosystem Automation

Hi, eufy fans,

Do you ever feel that you’re getting out-smarted by your smart home? Keep an eye out for more “Unlock the power of eufy” posts and gain the knowledge needed to be top of the smart-home class.

For today’s post, we will explore Ecosystem Automation.:house:

It’s not as complicated as it sounds. Ecosystem automation is simply the way in which different eufy Security devices interact with one another when synced with HomeBase.

For example, you can set your eufyCam to start recording when the motion sensor is triggered. Creating an “automation” such as this not only makes things more convenient but it also can give you more comprehensive coverage of your home. :exploding_head:

What is Device Automation

We define Device automation as the creation of customized Triggers AND Actions that take place between connected devices in your security ecosystem. :iphone::calling:

To create an automation, simply open the app, go to settings, and add Automation group.

How and When Should It Be Used

Tom :man_astronaut: is a big eufy Security fan! He has a eufyCam 2 system, a motion sensor, and an entry sensor.
He loves the fact that he can create automations between his security products so that work in tandem with each other.

Let’s take a look at some of the scenarios where Tom can use automations to improve his home security:

Scenario 1: Outdoor

An intruder breaks into Tom’s house and is able to avoid eufyCam’s detection zone. The intruder triggers the entry sensor as he breaks the window.

Tom has set an automation so that when his entry sensor is triggered his eufyCam will start recording.

The intruder :male_detective: grabs Tom’s TV and jumps back out the window. Given that Tom’s eufyCam started recording immediately after the sensor was triggered, he was able to capture the intruder leaving.

Scenario 2 : Indoor

2 of Tom’s eufyCam’s are set up within his home. He has one positioned in his corridor and one set up in his living room.

He has created an automation between these 2 cameras so that when the one in his corridor is triggered the one in the living room will immediately start recording.

This came in handy while Tom was on holiday. :desert_island:

After spending the day relaxing on the beach he came back to find a eufySecurity notification on his phone. Given that his cameras were synced up he was able to see the full event right away.

To Tom’s surprise, it was his mother who had stopped by to “borrow” his PS4 while he was away. Apparently all of her friends had just got “Warzone”. :video_game:

Scenario 3: Total Automation

After being so impressed by the effectiveness of the device automations he’d set, Tom decided to test out “Total Automation”. By doing so, all of his security devices became synced so that when any of them was triggered they all would become active.

Tom feels more secure and confident in his home security than ever before.

Please Note That :

  • Only devices connected to the same Homebase can link to each other at present.
  • You can add up to 20 groups of automation; Up to 8 trigger devices and 16 action devices for each group.

Automation Triggers and Actions

Currently Automation only supports devices connected to the same Homebase.

The list below displays the Triggers which can be set to each device:

Note that:

IndoorCam / Floodlight / Wired doorbell / Smartlock are not supported because they do not need to connect to the Homebase.

Eufy you really need to include your new cameras in this. Allow us to connect all our solo and outdoor cams, it’s infuriating how fragmented the ecosystem is

How dare you?

Your homebases have such a small reach that it’s impossible to connect all cameras to a single one, even in a small house, let alone a normal sized one. Anyway, if you connect more than three cams to a homebase, the thing slows down with the notification.

More importantly, it doesn’t work for all the other cameras, indoor pan&tilt, solo cans etc.

I understand that it’s more direct and probably fastwr, when this goes through the homebases rather than through the app running in background. However, it’s absolutely essential that you in addition to automating single home bases that the app allows to create automation scenarios across homebases and stand alone cameras, even if the speed of rection is a little slower.

I have an automation rule that says when doorbell motion detected then eufycam 2C record video. There seems to be a 10 second or more delay between the doorbell motion detect trigger and the camera starting recording. Both are connected to homebase2. Currently have an open ticket but automation doesn’t seem to be as whizzy as it sounds.

I just purchased a set of new eufy 2C cams, everything went well with the installation and setup. Now I have an issue about the indoor cam to stop recording when Im home, what mode should I use?

Would have been a far better use of development time to just integrate with IFTTT rather than reinvent the wheel on such a limited basis. This is a proprietary approach which does nothing for broader automation or Eufy’s position in the market.

I’m very disappointed with my recent purchase of a 4 camera EufyCam 2 Pro setup and the lack of IFTTT integration is just another nail in the coffin.

Dear eufy Security Team,

Thank you for your rapid and sincere reply to the issue I’ve raised. I have the utmost confidence that it will be looked into by the right people. I, no doubt along with many of your customers, wait with baited breath for an update that brings Eufy into the broader world of automation.

 Very informative. However, can you please just fix the geofencing for Eufycam please. This has been in beta for 3yrs now, and still just does not work effectively. It is very frustrating to get a stream of notifications, because the app says your phone is “out of zone”, when the same apps map shows you pinned right in the centre of the zone.
Restarting the app every time you come home is not the purpose of geofencing.

Would I get a notification if the camera gets unplugged? I’m worried that someone might break in and unplug the camera

You won’t get anything.
And if they steal the camera, which is connected to the Homebase, it will also block your access to the recordings of the camera. So the Homebase has no security effect except it can sound the siren and allow some kind of automation - woohoo

When are you going to secure your web portal so someone random doesn’t watch me cook in the kitchen?

When can we welcome IFTTT, Eufy?

Fragmentation isn’t the problem , the lies are…I’m referring to when HB3 will support the indoor cam and the PT cam. First it was November now January.

Can you have watchOS app view any of your cams regardless if it connected to Apple HomeKit. Nest has an Apple app for the watches to view any of their cameras regardless of home hub.
